April and May 2026 brought us to Skopje for two significant international gatherings in which Kooperativa participated as a co-organiser.

From 29 to 30 April, we co-hosted the fifth Cultural Mobility Forum of On the Move, a network we are a member of through the EU-funded New Solidarities programme (2025–2028). The Forum took place at MKC Skopje and the Albanian Theatre Skopje, bringing together over 170 participants from 39 countries. The focus was cultural mobility justice, the systemic inequities that determine who can move, create, and participate in the global cultural landscape. Participants addressed visa barriers, economic disparities, and entrenched structural inequalities in international cultural exchange, with particular attention to the position of cultural workers from Southeast Europe. Recordings and materials are available on On the Move’s YouTube channel.

Just one week later, from 14 to 16 May, Skopje welcomed us again, for the CAE South-East Satellite BEYOND conference which Kooperativa co-organised organised with Heartefact North Macedonia in collaboration with Clubture, Kooperativa, A25 Cultural Foundation, and Euradia. Held across key spaces of the local independent scene, the Cinema at the Railway Building, Youth Center Matično, and co-working space Public Room, the conference reaffirmed Skopje’s role as a regional hub for independent culture and international cooperation. Discussions centred on artistic freedom, access to public cultural spaces, unstable funding, and increasingly difficult working conditions for cultural workers across Europe. Our Milica Pekić took part in the panel Shrinking Space for Culture & Regional Landscapes. A key message of the conference was that the Western Balkans should not only follow European cultural debates but actively shape them, drawing on the region’s experience in resilience, solidarity, and community-based organising.
