Kooperativa representatives held a one-day consultative meeting yesterday with representatives of Slovenian independent cultural organizations. The meeting was held in Ljubljana and was hosted by Asociacija – Association of Arts and Culture NGOs and Freelancers, a network that has been informally operating since 1992, and that is today a professionally coordinated network which joins around a hundred organizations and individuals.

The meeting was a place of exchanging information about Kooperativa’s activities, as well as advocacy efforts that are being made by both Kooperativa and Asocijacija, in the context of developing a stable, long-term institutional framework of support for independent cultural organizations in Southeast Europe.

Furthermore, an important subject of the meeting was public spaces management, i.e. new management models in socio-cultural infrastructure. Since the subject of public spaces management , or, socio-cultural centers, is a current and vibrant issue in almost every country of the region, and having in mind that there are numerous (national and local) initiatives dealing with this issues, it was agreed that Kooperativa and Asocijacija will work towards finding a space of cooperation in this field of interest.

Finally, conversations at the meeting also tackled the following issues: development and sustainability of cultural policies in Croatia and Slovenia, exchange of experiences regarding participation in the processes of creating cultural policies, sustainability and developmental perspectives of independent culture in the region, as well as exchange of information concerning joint advocacy efforts to establish a regional fund that would support organizations working in SEE.
