REG LAB TWINNING RAZMJENA MENTORSTVO LJETNA ŠKOLA

HEADQUARTERS:
Jurij Gagarin 28 4/4
1000 Skopje
Macedonia

The need to found the association Freedom Square arose from the existing political, cultural and social state of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia and Skopje. The emergence of new forms of abuse of urbanism and architecture for the purpose of populist and nationalist policies, imposed a real necessity to work on raising very low civic awareness, as well as awareness of public space, spatial planning, public interest and the commons. Completely aware of the challenges our democracy, culture and our cities are facing, the Founders’ Assembly of the Association for activism, art and theory Freedom Square as a non-partisan, non-governmental and non-profit organization, has brought its Program.

We envision the open, tolerant and cosmopolitan City as a source and foundation of democracy, freedom and open society. The patrons of such a City, perceived primarily as democratic public space, ought to be its responsible and solidary citizens.
Our mission is to develop alternative and inclusive culture, civic-oriented urban policies and grassroot citizens’ activism.

Freedom Square aims to:

~ Found and maintain open democratic public spaces in the Republic of Macedonia;
~ Participate in the processes of public opinion making and public policy creating;
~ Produce, promote and exchange local culture and knowledge;
~ Regionally contextualize citizens’ activism;
~ Thoughtfully research various forms of City capital perceived as material and non-material heritage, urban customs, lifestyles and values.
